Velcom, the Belarusian GSM operator, has recently announced that it plans to double its investments in network development to E100mln by the end of the 2003.
By the end of 2002 Velcom plans to install five commutators in regional centres, to increase its network capacity to 550,000 numbers, and add 150 new base stations, 50 of which will be located in Minsk.
Velcom GSM network coverage will be extended by 4 per cent and will cover 90 per cent of urban regions territories. In 2003 the company will provide GSM communications in areas where the population is greater than 10,000 and also along major highways. By the end of 2003, the operator asserts that Velcom network capacity will increase to reach 1m people.
