According to Ministry of Communications report of July 30, 2003 Velcom covers territory with more than 88% of urban population and MTS has 730 subscribers that is 60% more than in January, Belcel's cdma2000 network covers 10% of the territory of the country with 40% of urban population and has now about 3000 subscribers.
Ministry's officials drew mobile operators attention to the necessity of increase in the number of base stations with special emphasis on networks extension in areas contaminated after the Chernobyl disaster and in order to reach targets indicated by the government for the year of 2003. By the end of 2003 Beltelecom and mobile operators should draw up the programme of the network development for 2004-2005.
