Speaking before Parliamentary Committee on industry, fuel and energy complex, transport, communications and private enterprises, Minister of Communications and Informatization Vladimir Goncharenko said that there would be 2mln. mobile subscribers by the end of the year of 2004.
The belarusian mobile operators have now (as of 1 May 2004) 1 375 500 subscribers in Belarus. Penetration rate average 14%.
Addressing the issue of the third operator bidding Mr. Goncharenko has emphasized that emergence of a new operator will promote competition and bring down prices.
Mr. Goncharenko has informed parliamentarians that mobile network will cover all the highways connecting Minsk and regional centers by 2005.
