According to Belarusian Ministry of Comunications and Informatization there will be 5-5,5m mobile phones subscribers in the country by the year of 2010.
As of October 7, 2004, the Ministry informs, there are 2,018m subscribers which is two times more than in the same period of the previous year.
The number of Velcom subscribers totals 958,000 , MTS - 984,000 , and Belcel - 76,000.
According to the Belarusian prime minister Sergei Sidorski forecast, the third GSM operator will bring 1-2 mln subscribes. The new GSM operator owned by the state, adds prime minister, will use domestically produced communication equipment.
In five years 50% of Belarusian population (every second person) will own a mobile phone.
