Number of BY domain names past 100,000

According to BelTA the number of registered domain names in the Belarusian part of the Internet has exceeded 100,000.
Irbel.by was number 100,000, BelTA learned from representatives of the domain name registration operator hoster.by.
According to the source, the BY domain has been growing fast in comparison with European domains for a year and is one of the top five rapidly expanding domains in the European country code top-level domain organization CENTR. Only the Iranian domain IR is ahead of BY in terms of monthly growth. By the way, the year 2014 began in a very optimistic manner, with over 9,300 domain names registered since 1 January, BelTA has learned. The pace inspires hope for the first place of the BY domain in the next quarter of the year, said hoster.by.
Specialists said that although there are domains with millions of registered names, the BY domain is twice as large as, for instance, the Icelandic domain IS and is as large as the national domains of Estonia and Armenia combined.
Sales of BY domain names via charity auctions have earned over $150,000 for children’s home all over Belarus.
