MTS Belarus marks 15th anniversary; reports one million 4G subscribers

According to TeleGeography mobile operator MTS Belarus has marked its 15th anniversary of operations in the country, awarding its subscribers a thank you by way of a ‘personal bonus’ available via the website or by SMS.

Further, the cellco, which is a joint venue between state-owned Intercity Communications (51%) and Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) of Russia (49%), says it has more than 5.2 million customers on its books, including one million 4G LTE users. Having launched with just 20 base transceiver stations (BTS) in the capital and Minsk National Airport, today the company boasts more than 11,000 BTS on-air covering 98.25% of the territory.

MTS Belarus booked revenues of BYN662 million (USD344.7 million) in FY 2016, up from BYN546 million the previous year and BYN497 million in FY 2014, as operating profit increased by 26% to BYN229 million, adjusted OIBDA surged to BYN312 million from BYN269 million and net profit edged up to BYN189 million from BYN183 million. Full year CAPEX reached BYN96 million, compared to BYN127 million in FY 2015. In its most recent release, the cellco said 1Q17 revenue surged to BYN170 million from BYN149 million, adjusted OIBDA climbed to BYN80 million (1Q16: BYN68 million) and net profit reached BYN52 million compared to BYN40 million in the year-earlier period. Q1 2017 CAPEX was BYN24 million – or 14.0% of revenue (up from 9.3% of revenue in 1Q16).
