Digital economy ordinance to revolutionize Belarus

14/12/2017

According to BelTA the draft digital economy development ordinance, which was discussed during the government conference held by the Belarus president on 11 December, is truly revolutionary.

The official said: “In spring the head of state said that work is in progress to create an IT country in Belarus. The draft ordinance was developed through the year upon his instructions. It is truly a very broad, fundamental, large-scale document. It has been described as revolutionary in mass media quite a lot. It is not an exaggeration. The document is indeed revolutionary. It envisages things, which are revolutionary not only for Belarus but for our neighbors. In some areas and in legislation Belarus may even get ahead of many developed nations, which we often view as examples of technological advancement.” According to Vsevolod Yanchevsky, during the government conference the head of state approved of the approaches the document lays down and of all the key aspects. The president pointed out that the ordinance provides extensive rights and freedoms, the most favorable conditions for the development of the IT industry, the arrival of capital, the development of new blockchain technologies. It should also benefit the country as a whole and the economy and the people of Belarus in particular. “We discussed ways to encourage investments in Belarus, in the national economy. We talked about how technologies can help improve the performance of our manufacturing sector, agriculture, education in order to leave financial assets here and allow the state budget, which supports many people, to get benefits,” he stressed. “The key instruction given by the president is to enable the best conditions for the development of high technologies and information technologies on the one hand. On the other hand, we aim for the prosperity of not only one economic branch but the entire country. We would like every citizen to feel benefits of it,” added Vsevolod Yanchevsky.
