Beltelecom hooks up 200,000th GPON subscriber in Minsk region

26/12/2017

According to TeleGeography Belarusian state-owned national PTO Beltelecom has connected its 200,000th Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Networks (GPON) high speed internet subscriber in the region of Minsk, connecting a household in Borisovan to its network and handing the subscriber a free annual pass to its triple-play ‘YASNA 100’ broadband plan in the process.

Beltelecom has been actively ramping up its fibre-optic network coverage this year, replacing old copper wire with an individual fibre-optic cable routed to the subscriber’s apartment/house.

On 31 October 2016 the nation’s dominant fixed line and broadband provider hit the milestone of one million GPON users, beating its own target to hit that number by the end of the year. The telco is confident of its plan to deploy fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) to all households by end-2020, including rolling out services to all high-rise apartments across the country. Beltelecom currently offers YASNA with a variety of connectivity options.
