Digital economy development council established in Belarus

According to BelTA a digital economy development council has been established in Belarus by the Council of Ministers' resolution No.167 of 28 February 2018.

The council will focus on coordinating efforts meant to implement the government policy in the sphere of digital transformation of the economy and the development of information and communication technologies. The council will determine tasks and goals of the digital transformation of the national economy. It will set priorities in assimilating digital technologies in manufacturing branches of the economy, the spheres of trade and services, the social sphere taking into account the latest advances in information and communication technologies and the development of the global digital space. The council will take care of forming a favorable legal and regulatory environment for the development of the national digital economy. The council will also encourage the transition to the latest digital technologies in various branches of the economy and public relations. It will take care of creating and developing a modern digital infrastructure and the creation of digital platforms for various purposes in addition to developing the national ICT industry. The tasks also include the implementation of investment projects and public private partnership projects in the area of information and communication technologies and international cooperation in the sphere of digital economy. The Communications and Informatization Ministry will take care of organizational and informational support for the council's operation. The council will be chaired by Prime Minister of Belarus Andrei Kobyakov. First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Vasily Matyushevsky will act as his deputy. The document comes into force as of the official publication date.
