27/02/2019

According to BelTA The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is ready to provide technical assistance to Belarus with projects designed to create smart city solutions.

Director of the ITU Telecommunication Standardization Bureau Chaesub Lee made the relevant statement in a video greeting to participants of the forum “Smart sustainable cities: technological trends, success stories and future prospects”, which is scheduled to take place in Minsk on 26-27 February, BelTA has learned. Chaesub Lee noted that the ITU uses world practices in order to optimize the work of the so-called smart cities all over the world where they already exist. “Our standards allow very effectively introducing innovations. They represent a good beginning for starting the development of cities and bringing all kinds of technologies into countries,” he said. It is important to share the best practices between countries in the course of implementing such projects. “Our organization is a very important partner. We are always ready to help you and provide technical assistance with reaching your goals,” Chaesub Lee stressed. The official said he hopes that Belarus would grab the opportunity in order to learn as much as possible about ways to participate in this global initiative. In turn, Belarusian Communications and Informatization Minister Konstantin Shulgan noted that Belarus had embraced the policy of introducing all the new technologies, which will allow the country to secure sustainable development goals in addition to raising living standards of the nation. The republic already has some experience of introduction of smart technologies. For instance, Belarus has an integrated service and payment system ERIP. International experience is actively examined for the sake of introducing technologies in the most effective manner possible. While talking to mass media, Konstantin Shulgan said that with the passage of time Belarus will have not only smart cities, but also smart villages.
