100 thousand Belarusbank card holders use SMS-banking services

As of December 2006, 100 thousand Belarusbank card holders use SMS-banking services.
The Belarusbank SMS-banking service introduced in 2004 initially allowed clients to check their accounts and to pay for VELCOM or MTS mobile communications services.
At the moment, SMS-banking includes also information on bank accounts and possibility to pay for municipal services, electricity and etc., for satellite TV services.
In December 2005, 35 000 Belarusbank card holders used SMS-banking service, which is 2,5 less than in 2006.There are 40 000 Velcom subscribers and 60 000 MTS subscribers among Belarusbank card holders using SMS- banking. SMS-banking turnover totaled BLR 1,2 bln (425000EUR) in November 2006, which is 4 times more than in November 2005.
In October 2006, Belarusbank issued its 2millionth card. The first Belarusbank card was issued in 1996. In 2002, there were 100 000 Belarusbank card holders. In 2003- 500 000, and in October 2004 - 1000 000. Belarusbank has 664 ATMs and 525 infokiosks.
