Belarusian Radio Liberty doubles its broadcasting hours

The RFE/RL Radio Liberty Belarusian Service has doubled its broadcast time from 4 to 8 hours.
RFE/RL announced that the step is a necessary one in connection with the forthcoming presidential elections in Belarus. Voting for the elections will take place on 9 September.
Belarus is the only country in Europe to forbid the retransmitting of its RFE/RL programmes. The RFE/RL carries broadcasts to Belarus from Poland and Lithuania on short and medium waves.
