Mobile penetration in Belarus has grown by 300 per cent in the last year.
600,000 people in Belarus use mobile phones, or six per cent of the population. This is still fairly insignificant compared to the rest of Eastern Europe. For example, in Lithuania 45 per cent of population use mobile phones, and in Poland 27 per cent.
However, the rate of growth is much higher in Belarus. The main reasons for this are rapid coverage area expansion and active marketing policies of the mobile operators.
Analyst reckon that by the end of the year, the number of mobile subscribers in the country should be as high as 1m.
