According to Alexander Karnauh, public relations manager of Cosmos TV, the company is planning to invest $11 mln. into Minsk city cable network expansion in 2004-2007. While in 2001-2003 Cosmos TV investments into cable network development came to $5 mln.
At present Cosmos TV optical fiber link has the power of 16 fiber lines and the length of 85 km. and affords broadcasting of 39 channels for 4 Minsk districts (110 000 households). The average price for a package of 14-20 channels is $3,5.
Cosmos TV renders broadband Internet access via cable modems (6Mbit/sec) for 20,5 households in 4 Minsk districts. By 2005 the company is planning to render broadband access to 170 000 households.
Cosmos TV is the only cable provider rendering broadband Internet access services in Belarus.
A joint Belarusian-American venture Cosmos TV was founded in 1993 by Belarusian state company Republican Radio and TV Broadcasting Center and by American International Telcell, Inc. In 2003 the company brought an income of $3,6 mln., which is 30% more than in 2002.
