Minister of Communications and Informatization gives report to the Council of Ministers

Vladimir Goncharenko , Minister of communications and Informatization of Belarus, stated in his recent report to the Council of Ministers that Communications Development State Programme 2001-2005 has been carrying out successfully.
According to Mr. Goncharenko, the capacity of Automatic Telephone Exchange which have been put into operation since 2001 totals 533,1 thousand numbers. Teledensity rate is 32.3 telephones per 100 inhabitants.
In 2001-2003 Automatic Telephone Exchange with total capacity of 172 thousand numbers have been modernized, telephone communications reached 619 small villages and digital Automatic Telephone Exchange with total capacity of 120 thousand ports have been put into operation in all the regional centers. Overall fibre-optic network extension said Vladimir Goncharenko, totals now 24,000 km.
By the 21st of April, 2004 there were 1,38 mln. mobile subscribers in Belarus.
Minister of Communications and Informatization has informed Council of Ministers that digital TV broadcasting will be launched by the end of the year 2005.
