Beltelecom is modernizing its backbone network

Beltelecom has just completed the first stage of its backbone network modernization by putting into operation DWDM/SDH system produced by German Siemens AG. The new DWDM/SDH system used for fiber optic Minsk-Brest, Minsk-Grodno, Grodno-Brest communication channels allows to increase transmission speed up to 400 Gbps and to raise channels capacity by 80 times.
Putting new DWDM/SDH system into operation will also allow to install two additional beltelecom fiber optic connections with Telekomunikacja Polska S.A and with Ukrtelecom by the end of the current year.
According to Beltelcom plans the modernization programme is to be accomplished by the beginning of 2005.
