By the end of 2004 three Belarusian mobile operators Velcom, MTS and Diallog had together 2.450m subscribers, which is 2,2 times more than in 2003.
According to the Ministry of communications predicts - there will be between five and 5.5m mobile phones subscribers in Belarus by 2010.
Proceeding from that assessment and from governmental programme of mobile network development, Ministry of communications has worked out recommendations for Belarusian mobile operators.
According to governmental recommendations each operator is to plan 1m increase of the number of subscribers by 2006.
At the same time it is planned to set into operation 245 thousand fixed telephone numbers in 2005 (at present there are more than 3mln. 175 thousand numbers in operation). In 2004 fixed telephone lines were reached 263 small villages (instead of 150 planned for the year). The cost of that 2004 year project totaled BLR 384 mln. According to the Ministry of communications fixed telephone network covers 10 000 of 12 000 smaller villages.
