The strategy for radio communications development adopted in Belarus

On March 31, 2005, Belarusian Council of Ministers adopted "The conception for radio communications development in Belarus in 2005-2010" #346.
According to the strategy the major steps in the sphere are
- to launch a national mobile phone services operator,
- to organize production of GSM, CDMA, GPRS, EDGE and related standards equipment,
- to organize production of broad-band radio access equipment - IEEE 802.11 and IEEE 802.16 standards .
In order to coordinate the implementation of the strategy, National Scientific Centre for Radio Communications Facilities is to be established. To promote modernization of radio communications equipment production, and in order to develop facilities, the government is planning to reduce or even liquidate customs dues for radio communications equipment, software and the related goods export. At the same time the government will subsidize domestic small hi-tech businesses and will encourage creating joint stock companies with participation of foreign investors.
