On January 31, 2006 Ministry of Communications and Informatization withheld working of regulations adopted on July 16, 1998, according to which juridical and physical persons were allowed to use devices for spread spectrum, within 2400 - 2483,5 MHz frequency range, in order to create local radio networks for data transmission without licensing. The changes were initiated by S. Bogdanov, the head of the Republic of Belarus State Inspection on Telecommunications.
Ministry of Communications and Informatization charged permanent State Committee on radiofrequencies Working Group with developing new rules for the use of the 2400 - 2483,5 MHz frequencies by local radio networks for data transmission, taking into consideration ITU recommendations and Belarusian experience in the field.
Before, in order to import WiFi equipment to Belarus, it was necessary to submit technical project to the Ministry of Communications and Informatization, and to get license for creation wireless network from the same Ministry.
