At the press conference organized within the framework of Internet Days on February 20, 2006, Nikolai Strukov, deputy minister of Communications and Informatization of the Republic of Belarus announced that the Ministry is planning to create, broadband Internet access backbone.
According to the Ministry's data, the broadband Internet access market in Belarus totals 500 thousand clients.
The broadband backbone is the first stage of Belarusian Informatization programme. The next stage is content issue. Now, the government bodies' websites are to be transferred to Beltelecom servers.
The third stage, according to Mr. Strukov is networks security.
The three components - customers, content and security are the milestones for the Informatization infrastructure.
