During 7 years of operation, Belarusian GSM operator Velcom has invested USD 310 mln into its network and services development.
As of April 1, 2006, Velcom's network of 1242 base stations covers 67 per cent of the country's territory. The company has 2,1 mln subscribers and shares 46,2 per cent of mobile communications market in Belarus.
Velcom Users (1999-2006)
Joint venture Mobile Digital Communications (Velcom) was founded in June 1998. The major Velcom shareholder Cyprus SBTelecom Ltd owns 49 per cent of shares, while Beltelecom and Beltechexport share 31 and 20 per cent respectively. Velcom has been the first GSM operator in Belarus, the company is an official representative of satellite communications operator Global Star in Belarus.
