Belarusian mobile operator BelCel has put into operation a new network based on EV-DO technologies in Minsk.
At present BelCel has two EV-DO standard frequency bands. One of which, CDMA 2000 1xEV-DO, provides combined data transmission - voice and Internet- with the speed of 153 kBit/sec. The other one which does not provide voice services has the speed of 2,4 MBit/sec, and is available only in the center of the Minsk city. By September 2006, BelCel is planning to expand its EV-DO network to the whole city, and by the end of the same year - to all regional centers of the country.
The EV-DO equipment and technology has been provided by Huawei company.
IMT-MC-450 standard mobile operator BelCel has been operating in Belarus since February 2003. It is a joint venture of CIB BV, Netherlands, (50%) and Beltelecom, Belarusian state owned company (50%). As of March 2006, BelCel has Belarusian market share of about 3%.
