Belarusian GSM operators expand EDGE services

On November 21, 2006 VELCOM launch EDGE services in Minsk which are supported by 95% Velcom base stations in Minsk. A year earlier, in December 2005, EDGE was launched in Grodno, Mogilev and Vitebsk region. As for now, this technology is supported by 100% velcom base stations in these regions
MTS provides EDGE services in all regional centers - Minsk, Gridno, Brest, Vitebsk, Mogilev, and Gomel.
Both companies are planning to extend their EDGE services. Vladimir Karpovich, MTS general director, emphasizes that there is a great demand for the service, especially on the part of IT specialists, corporate clients and younger people.
