According to the deputy trade and services administration head Andrei Novikov, the number of shops using internet as a means of trade increases approximately by one hundred per year. As for now there are 740 internet shops in Belarus. He stressed that all these shops have sites registered in .by zone and that these shops observe Belarusian legislative regulations. It was also announced that while on the first stages of internet commerce in Belarus monthly turnover totaled 5000-7000 USD, now it's estimated at 26 billion Belarusian roubles (12 MUSD).
Mr. Novikov noted that at the initial stages of internet shopping the most popular goods were computers and computing equipment, phones and etc. While at present construction materials, toys and childs' clothes, car parts and cosmetics are the most demanded goods.
He also said that 2007 was the year when foreign investors became interested in internet commerce for the first time. "Russian companies are the ones most interested in this segment, and last year first internal and external investments were made in this sphere", - said A.Novikov.
