Digital TV broadcasting is to be launched in Vitebsk by the end of the third quarter of 2009 within the framework of the State program of digital TV radiobroadcasting.
The project is finaced by the Ministry of Communications Innovations fund.
After the digital TV transmitter is installed, residents of Vitebsk will be able to access 8 programs in digital format - "First Channel", ONT, LAD, CTV, NTV-Belarus, RTR-Belarus, "8 channel", Mir on 43d channel.
A standard of improved signal compression for digital TV MPEG-4/AVC will be used.
In 2009, digital TV became accessible for residents of Braslav region. A digital transmitter which uses DVB-T standard with MPEG-4/AVC signal compression was installed on Braslav radio station. It broadcasts 8 programs on channel 43. Calculated zone of transmitter's service is 36km.
Also, an ethereal digital TV broadcasting is planned to be organised in Oswea (Verkhnedvinsky region), where new broadcasting station is to be built. In Vitebsk region, digital TV is already accessible to residents of Sharkovschinsky district and Orsha.
