International Belarus-Poland digital channel's bandwidth has been expanded to 622 Mbit/s. As Deputy director general of the United institute of informational problems of the National Academy of Science of Belarus Vladimir Anischenko has announced, "Data transfer speeds were increased by over four times. And next year, we're planning to increase the bandwidth even further".
Belarus - Poland digital channel had been put into operation in 2004, when National Academy of Science of Belarus' computer network BASNET had been connected to European scientific and educational GEANT network through the Polish PIONIER network (Poznan city). At that time, bandwidth didn't exceed 34 Mbit/s, in 2006 it was increased to 155 Mbit/s, and now - to 622 Mbit/s. Digital communications channel Belarus - Poland with new bandwidth was created with United institute of informational problems of NSA and Beltelecom last week.
BASNET is the only Belarusian provider of GEANT access for various scientific and educational networks of the country. Data transfer speed over BASNET varies from 100 to 1000 Mbit/s. Regional nodes are situated in Gomel, Brest, Grodno, Mogilev and Vitebsk. Over 150 legal persons use BASNET.
