Head of the main informational and analytical center of the Ministry of Education of Belarus Nikolai Listopad said that in a year or a year and a half all Belarussian schools will have broadband Internet access.
According to the statistics dated to October 1st, around 21% of Belarusian schools have broadband access, 43% of which are city schools, and 9% are country ones. 87% of Belarusian schools have some kind of Internet access.
Today Belarusian schools have over 40 thousand computers. Their number increased by twenty times since 1996. There are 18-19 pupils for every computer today (in 2006 the number was 28 per computer).
