According to TeleGeography start-up operator Belarusian Cloud Technologies (beCloud) has been granted frequencies to construct the country’s sole 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) wireless network.
According to local press reports, ICT Minister Nikolay Panteley has awarded LTE-capable spectrum with the aim of constructing a single nationwide network which will then be offered on a wholesale basis to other Belarus operators in order to save infrastructure costs. beCloud is said to be 51% owned by domestic group Operative Analytical Center, itself operating under the President of Belarus’ national centre of traffic exchange, and including Russian businessman Konstantin Nikolaev as a key participant in the venture.
