According to BelTA the Belarusian mobile carrier Velcom will double Internet access speed for residents of Belarusian cities by the end of October.
“We are about to finish a large-scale project to enable the Dual Carrier HDSPA technology for all the 3G|3G+ base stations in Belarusian cities with the population of over 30,000 people. It will allow increasing Internet access speed up to 42Mbps,” explained the press service.
Apart from that, over 90 3G|3G+ base stations will have a third carrier frequency enabled. Thanks to that mobile communication subscribers will get a steadier signal in heavy traffic locations.
“We modernize the network systematically. These are strategic investments of the company for the sake of making the transition to new technologies once it is legally possible,” noted the source.
The capacity of Velcom's network has increased by 24% since the beginning of the year.
The Belarusian mobile carrier Velcom provides mobile communication services using the trademarks Velcom and PRIVET on the basis of GSM (GPRS, EDGE), UMTS (HDSPA, HSUPA), and Dual Carrier HDSPA technologies all over Belarus in addition to wired Internet access services based on its own fiber optic network. In September 2014 the company had nearly 5 million subscribers.
