According to Euroradio the Internet is becoming Belarusians’ main source of information.
Over 6 million Belarusians are Internet users. The country’s population is about 9.5 million people.
Senior deputy Minister of Communication and Informatization Dzmitry Shadko has announced the numbers, Minsk-News reports. Only 2% of Belarusians use the Internet as a source of civil and political information in 2001, he added. The number has reached 44% now.
Over 60% of Belarusians do not listen to the radio, about 50% do not read newspapers and 10% do not watch TV, Shadko said.
It is necessary to use social networks for ideological work, the official noted.
