According to BelTA rhe Ministry of Communications and Information Technology reviewed the informatization programs 2015, the social and economic development of the industry over the past year at a session on 26 January. The event was attended by Vice Prime Minister Anatoly Kalinin, presidential aide Vsevolod Yanchevsky, officials of the National Bank, ministries and departments, representatives of major IT companies.
In his report Communications and Information Technology Minister Sergei Popkov informed that in 2015 all the indicators of the social and economic development of the communications industry were met and that the ministry implemented business development plans across the basic criteria: net profit and profitability of sales.
Vice Prime Minister Anatoly Kalinin praised the performance of the communications industry in 2015 and instructed to develop a plan of priority measures to revitalize the work on the e-Government project.
"Recently, our country has stayed ahead of all CIS countries in terms of ICT development. This is clearly reflected in the rankings of the International Telecommunication Union. Belarus is ranked 36th out of 167 countries and is seriously ahead of Russia and Kazakhstan. But we still need to do a lot. Belarus has all chances to become a leader in Eastern Europe,” Vsevolod Yanchevsky noted.
First Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technology Dmitry Shedko opined that today information and communication technologies do not just affect the economy and social processes but are a determining factor in development. "The global transformation is underway in all areas of human activity. Readiness for these changes is the key to the future of the country,” he said
