Broadband Internet in Belarus, H1 2017

According to BelTA in H1 2017 the number of fixed broadband internet subscribers in Belarus reached 3.1 million, or 32% of the country's population.

The number of wireless broadband subscriptions surged by 400,500 in January-June 2017 and totaled 6.4 million as of 1 July 2017.

The number of IPTV service subscribers skyrocketed from 85,000 to 1.6 million over the same period.

As much as 60% of the population uses the LTE technology. The service is available in 29 large district centers, in all the oblast centers, and in the capital. Average traffic per LTE user made up 5.8Gb.

The total number of mobile communication service subscribers in Belarus stood at 11.3 million. The average call duration went up by 11 minutes in January-June 2017 and reached 737 minutes per person a month.

Participants of the review session at the Communications and Informatization Ministry pointed out that the development of information and communication infrastructure and the introduction of new services continued in H1 2017. The ministry is carrying out 58 projects of the national program to develop digital economy and information society, 12 of them were launched in 2017.

The enterprises affiliated with the ministry used Br187.5 million investment in fixed capital in H1 2017, up 13.4% from the same period a year prior. The amount of net FDI is expected to reach the target of $60 million. The IMS platform was extended in terms of hardware and software in January-June 2017; the number of subscribers rose by 306,000 up to more than 2 million.

Some 3,500 kilometers of fiber-optical links were put into service using the GPON technology, which increased the number of GPON users up to 1.4 million.
