Beltelecom publishes 2017 network update; GPON users top 1.7m

31/01/2018

According to TeleGeography Belarusian state-owned national PTO Beltelecom has published a brief update on its network developments in 2017, and also adopted proposals concerning its targets for the year ahead.

In a website statement, the company said that at 31 December 2017 it had signed up 2.4 million ‘byfly’ broadband subscribers, and 1.6 million IPTV (branded ‘ZALA’) users. Further, the telco says it has connected 1.7 million homes and businesses to Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network (GPON) technology to date, and built, commissioned and put into operation an additional 9,500km of fibre-optic lines last year. Finally, Beltelecom noted that as part of its ongoing migration to an all-IP network, it had connected 2.4 million subscribers to its IMS platform by end-2017. As part of this, the PTO decommissioned outmoded equipment in Gomel, Grodno and Mogilev, and in the Minsk City Telephone Network.
