According to TeleGeography Belarusian telco VELCOM (formerly Mobile Digital Communications) has revealed plans to acquire 100% of shares in Vitebsk-based regional cable TV and internet provider JSC Vitebsk Oblast Techno-Trade Center Garant (Garant).
Onliner.by claims that VELCOM, which is striving to build its business organically, is also looking at ways to expand its presence in the regions via acquisitions, and Garant could be a good fit. Talks about a possible buyout have taken place, but to date no deal has been agreed. Moreover, officials for Garant – the largest provider of fixed internet access and cable television in Vitebsk – have said it is ‘incorrect’ to talk about a takeover at this time as it is a joint-stock company.
