Pompeo visits Belarus' Hi-Tech Park

03/02/2020

According to BelTA I am inspired by what I saw at Belarus' Hi-Tech Park, U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo wrote on his Twitter account.

"A great example of how Belarus can seize its extraordinary growth potential by embracing forward-looking economic policies and smart regulation," Michael Pompeo said.

He also said that it was clear how impactful American investment can foster prosperity across the globe.

Michael Pompeo was also glad to meet with Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko in Minsk. “The United States is optimistic about our strengthened relationship. We remain committed to a sovereign, independent, and prosperous future for the people of Belarus,” the U.S. Secretary of State added.

Michael Pompeo visited the Hi-Tech Park after two-hour talks with the president, during which a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation, including promising areas of trade and economic interaction, were discussed.

The high-ranking guest, accompanied by Belarus' Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei, was welcomed by the Hi-Tech Park heads and the largest, most successful resident companies working in Belarus and fulfilling orders for the United States.

In 2019, the export of the HTP services soared by 52% to $2.1 billion (in 2018, the growth was 38% to $1.4 billion). The United States accounts for 44% of HTP exports.

The Hi-Tech Park is home to 62 companies (out of 751 registered with the HTP) with American capital. In 2019, the export of their services to the United States reached $900 million. More than 280 HTP residents provide works and services to the United States.

"We are really happy that during his visit to the HTP the U.S. Secretary of State was pleasantly surprised by our Belarusian developments. It is a good sign for business," Director of the HTP Administration Vsevolod Yanchevsky told journalists.

He stressed that cooperation with the United States in the IT sector is of great importance. “No country in the world can do without it,” Vsevolod Yanchevsky said. “In the world of IT and high technologies, the United States is the number one country, an undisputed leader, because Google, Apple, Amazon, Facebook and many others were born there. The United States is the most important market for the Hi-Tech Park.”
