According to TeleGeography Belarusian common infrastructure provider Belarusian Cloud Technologies (beCloud) has revealed plans to build an LTE-800 network in the Mogilev region using 800MHz radio frequencies allocated earlier this month by the State Commission on Radio Frequencies (SCRF).
In a press release, the company confirmed that the deployment will be carried out via Ericsson Nikola Tesla, which will supply equipment, update the software and create a turnkey network (design, installation and commissioning). Under the agreement, the vendor will supply beCloud with ‘high-performance 5G-ready base stations that meet the latest 3GPP specifications’ to deploy an LTE-800 network in the Mogilev region. beCloud hopes that LTE-800 services will go live in both the regional capital and wider region by April 2021.
Mogilev is the second region in Belarus where beCloud is using three frequency ranges – 800MHz, 1800MHz and 2600MHz – to deliver 4G LTE services, having activated its LTE-800 network in Gomel region in August 2020. As previously reported by CommsUpdate, at the time Belarus’ three mobile operators – A1, MTS and BeST (life:)) – confirmed that they had expanded their 4G LTE coverage in rural areas of the Gomel region, working in partnership with beCloud. In separate website updates, the cellcos confirmed that beCloud had switched on new 800MHz frequency transmitters which provide a greater range than the 1800MHz/2600MHz spectrum used thus far, to widen coverage. A1, MTS and life:) also pointed out that that the addition of LTE-800 services means that their overall 4G coverage in the region is now comparable with that for 3G.
Ultimately, beCloud is aiming to provide a single unified LTE network covering at least 99% of the population by 2023.
